Nanfang Theater is located downtown in the commercial district Beijinglu at the crossing of Jiaoyu Rd. and Xihu Rd. Gongyuanqian metro station is 200 meters north. The transport near the theater is very convenient.

Built in 1937, the theater now has 790 seats (518 on the ground floor, 272 on the second floor). Cantonese operas, dramas, fairy tale dramas, showcase dramas, singing and dancing shows, acrobatics and ballet can all be shown here, as well as movies and large meetings. Jiudiyuan, a garden in the theater, is a relic of the Five Dynasties and South Han. Nine thousand year old meteorites are erected in the garden along with stones, monuments in pavilions and corridors carved with ancient scholars' poetry. Bamboo and willows flicker by the edge of the pond. There are convenient mini cinemas on the 2nd floor and a large modern disco hall on the 3rd floor.

The equipment of the theater is advanced. The stage incorporates more than 60 various types of lamps and 24 electric suspenders, which make the equipment and background setting quicker and easier. In addition, the stage supervisors possess a radio intercom system during live shows.
