2009 Terry Fox Run (GZ) Starts Running on Dec. 5

The 7th Guangzhou Terry Fox Run (TFR) is to be held in Lu Hu Golf Academy at 9:00 AM on December 5, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in South China (Cancham) announced at a press conference on November 20.

Governors from China and Canada are invited, as well as more than 14 corporations which has long sponsored TFR. Last year, over RMB 320,000 had been collected and donated to Guangdong Provincial Hospital of TCM and the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, for financing the study of cancer research which gained gratifying achievement.

About Terry Fox

Terry Fox is a national hero in Canada, who ran all the way across Canada on an artificial leg to raise money for anti-cancer medical research. 1980 marks the prelude of 143 days' Marathon of Hope. He did not stop until his cancer recurred. The Canadians held the running program to carry forward the perseverance of Terry. The campaign has since spread around the world and developed into the biggest charitable activity all over the world as a single-day program. It is reported that more than 51 counties has successfully held the running program in an amount of over 4,000 times till 2008. Merely in 2008, more than 28 counties with over 2,100,000 participants took part in TFR, which contributed to donation of 1,500,000 dollars.
