Shanghai to Challenge Guangzhou in the Yellow Sea Cup of Rugby Saturday

Updated Beijing Time

On Saturday 24th May, the Guangzhou Rams will be hosting the Shanghai Hairy Crabs rugby team in this year's "The China Pub Company Yellow Sea Cup" tie. The match will kick off at 3.30 pm at South China University of Technology in Tianhe District.

The 2008 Yellow Sea Cup sees the first participation of the Guangzhou Rams, joining teams from Shanghai, Beijing and Seoul.

It is a round robin tournament where each team play the three other teams once either in spring or autumn, one year playing at home and the next away from home. Once all matches have been played, the champion will be declared. This year's Grand Finale weekend is planned for November where all teams will play their final matches on the same weekend.

It is hoped that this will take place in Hong Kong as part of the build up to the inaugural international test match between Australia and New Zealand the same weekend.

The annual tournament started in 2005, founded by Simon Drakeford ( Beijing Devils), Ted Gray (Seoul Survivors) and Mark Thomas (Shanghai Hairy Crabs)

Seoul Survivors won the first championship while Beijing Devils bagged the two afterwards.

The tournament was set up to allow some higher standard games for the teams. The games were "big ones" each year.
