Life of Guangzhou - Foreign Students Owning GZ Student Status Enjoy Medical Insurance

Students in Guangzhou, including foreign students who have Guangzhou student status, can join medical insurance before October 31. Students who join the insurance can be ensured from July 1, according to the Bureau of Labour and Social Security of Guangzhou Municipality and Bureau of Education of Guangzhou Municipality.

How to apply for student medical insurance

Foreign students in Guangzhou mainly cluster in international schools, private schools, universities and colleges. Once they have Guangzhou student status, they can join medical insurance in their school unit. When applying for the insurance, foreign students should prepare a copy of their passport. Student pays 80 RMB/year, and government pays another 80 RMB/year for one single student.

What to enjoy after insurance

Students can see a doctor in outpatient departments of communities or school clinics, and the student pays 30％; while in the pointed outpatient departments of hospitals, 40％.

Students staying in hospitals for medical care, pay 20% insurance (1st level hospitals); 30% (2nd level hospitals); 40% (3rd level hospitals). Third Level Health Institutions in China are the best.
