Korn/Ferry: Six Strong Sectors Actively Need Executives in PRD

Korn/Ferry International, one of the world's tycoons of human resource service, hosted a celebration for the first anniversary of its Guangzhou operations at the Westin, Guangzhou on June 16.

Its Guangzhou branch was the city's first Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise (WFOE), granted in early 2009, of global operator of executive recruitment.

U.S. Vice Consul General in Guangzhou Michael Jacobsen addresses the ceremony.

Jimmy Ho, Managing Director of the Guangzhou Korn/Ferry Human Capital Consulting Co.,Ltd., pointed out the Pearl River Delta under industrial restructuring is demanding higher-caliber people and attracting more and more talents from outside of Guangdong, and even China.

The sectors of Hi-tech, medicine, fast-moving consumer goods, and infrastructure construction remain strong and need substantial recruitments amid the economic downturn, according to Mr. Ho.

Andrew Tsui, Chairman of Korn/Ferry's South China Operations, added that education and financial risk management were another two hot lines in HR market.

As more and more companies recruited in April and May, Mr. Tsui recognized that the economy in China started to recover, a contrast to the gloomy HR market from last Christmas to late January.

He suggested companies could consider “fishing” executives for cost-effective pay in this low season as the salary of many young executives was slashed by about half, due to the downturn.

Guangdong in South China has its own strength and appeals in the competition for high-caliber human resource with Shanghai and Beijing – mild and warm climate, comfortable living environment, convenient proximity to Hong Kong, and improving economic connections with Hong Kong thanks to mainland's 'Close Economic Partnership Agreement' with Hong Kong, Tsui said.
