Guangzhou to Develop Modern Service Industry, Establishing "Six Major Centers"

To further advance the directions of Wangyang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Committee, that Guangzhou should establish a modern industrial system and energetically develop a high-class system of service industries. He also recommended that the city study and discuss how to vigorously develop the modern service industry sector of the city based on strengthening the clustering, radiating and comprehensive services functions of a central city. He also noted that the Theoretical Study Center Group of the CPC Guangzhou Committee had held a Massed Learning Meeting yesterday morning. The meeting invited Researcher Pei Changhong, Director of Institute of Finance and Trade Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and he made a thematic report entitled "Modern Metropolitan Economic Characteristics and the Development of Service Industries". Zhu Xiaodan, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Guangzhou Committee, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech. The other presenting municipal leaders include Zhang Guangning, Zhu Zhenzhong, and others who also made speeches at the meeting.

Zhu Xiaodan pointed out that Guangzhou's modern service industry should strengthen the consciousness of itself as a "Top Model" and establish its development direction in the coordinate system of facing the world and serving China. To become the "Top Model City" by establishing modern industrial systems and building a livable city, Guangzhou has to establish and confirm its main direction of attack for adjusting the industrial structure dominated with service industries and take the lead in completing the transformation of its urban economy from an industrial-oriented economy to a service-oriented economy. Guangzhou has to put forth considerable effort to build the great "six major centers". The first is to energetically develop a large international modern logistics hub, run well and strongly promote the air port and sea port economies and build Guangzhou into an Asian Logistics Center.

The second step is to optimize financial ecology, boost financial innovation and build Guangzhou into a regional financial center. The third step is to speed up the construction of an internationally advanced hub-style information infrastructure system, vigorously develop E-commerce, promote the concept of a clustered industrial development of the software industry and build Guangzhou into an international information port.

The fourth step is to drive the construction of an international trade and exhibition center, purchasing center, settlement center, information center, price forming center and, in this way, build Guangzhou into an international trade, conference and exhibition center. The fifth step is to put great efforts behind the introduction of the headquarters of the multinational enterprises and large domestic enterprises, to promote the clustered intensive development of the headquarters economy and to build Guangzhou into a core area of the international headquarters economy. And the sixth step is to exert the advantages of Guangzhou as the center of regional information and Lingnan Culture, energetically develop such cultural creative industries as software, design, Ani-Comics and others and build Guangzhou into a regional "Capital of Creativity".
