Couple Swap Sedan for Bicycle

 
In ancient times during a traditional Chinese wedding, the bridegroom went to the bride's family to take home his wife on a beautifully decorated sedan. Whilst sedans have disappeared, the tradition of showing off your wealth hasn't and nowadays, it is inside big luxurious cars that many parents expect to see their daughter leave the family home.

Recently, to the horror of the bride's parents, a young couple in Guangzhou came up with the more original idea of going home by bicycle. With their friends and some relatives, they rode through Guangzhou, circled Tianhe Sports Center and headed to their apartment. This cortege attracted the attention of hundreds of passersby, some of the clapping, others whistling.

The couple told us they preferred this "simple" ceremony for it was low-carbon and environmental friendly, although the bride's parents did object. The bridegroom claims he succeeded in persuading them by bringing them to Guangzhou to witness how bad the air quality in the city really is. Whether they understood or simple gave in, we shall ever know.
