Boy Collects Dead Batteries to Protect The Environment

Updated Beijing Time

"I've collected dead batteries for 6 years," says Xiao Li, today in his 20s, "They are very harmful and can cause serious pollution unless disposed of properly." Xiao Li first learned of the danger for the environment caused by dead batteries in 2003 when he was at college. He then started to collect them, mainly from schoolmates and neighbors.

Every couple of months, Li rides about 40km to the Nansha Treatment Plant with approximately 10Kg of batteries. Environmental protection is new in China and at first people thought his idea was a little crazy, but soon he succeeded in convincing people of the importance of the issue.
