"Pillar of Life" Portrays the Essence of DNA

Malcolm Simons at the donation ceremony, Sun Yat-sen University Affiliated Cancer Hospital
Hanging on the wall of a waiting room at Sun Yat-sen University Affiliated Cancer Hospital is a work of art recently donated by Australian painter Ann Abrahmsen. The 6.3 x 10-meter oil painting represents the human genome and was a gift to the hospital by the artist who's husband is being treated for cancer in the establishment. Her husband, Malcolm Simons is a scientist in nasopharyngeal cancer research and is working as a guest professor at the hospital. The painting hopes to bring hope and relieve to patients.


A row of letters appear on the trunks representing adenine and purine. Simons names it "Pillar of Life: and explained that when the elements are unbalanced, cancer can then take root.
