Cuban Latin Dance Instructor to Serve as Asian Games Volunteer

Updated Beijing Time

Alberto de Valle holds a certificate as a 2010 Asian Games volunteer (Guangzhou Daily)

In May, 32-year-old Alberto de Valle became the first foreigner to volunteer for the Guangzhou Asian Games coming up in November of 2010.

The Cuban-born American has lived in Guangzhou for three and a half years. Formerly a manager at a five-star hotel, Alberto now instructs Latin dance and is learning Chinese.

With his language advantage, Alberto received an award at the "Guangzhou Asian Games English Star Contest." "Many foreigners in the city make great contributions to Guangzhou's development. I think some should stand out on the behalf of the group," he said.

Alberto will be responsible for the promotion and reception of foreign guests during the Games.

The 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games has opened its doors to volunteers from different nationalities. One foreign applicant, who is acquainted with Spanish, English, Chinese, Portuguese and Italian, claimed that he could help by providing interpretation and guide services during the Games.
