The Consul General of the US in Guangzhou Brian L. Goldbeck stated, "I recently visited the Shanghai Expo, and enjoyed the hospitality and warm welcome I received at the Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan, Guangxi and the USA pavilions. I'm excited about attending some of the Asian Games events. Visitors and citizens alike will enjoy a beautified Guangzhou with new and improved transportation systems and facilities, such as stadiums, museums, and a striking new opera house. "
Mr. Goldbeck added, "In an initiative announced by President Obama last November, the U.S. is looking to increase the number of American students studying in China to 100,000 over the next four years."
