Charity Walk-a-Thon on June 22
Support for Earthquake Victims by U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou

The American and Chinese employees of the U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou have organized a series of activities to raise money and demonstrate continued support for the victims of the Sichuan Earthquake.
First, the FSN Association of the Consulate collected RMB28,700 from the employees. The second event was a June 11 pub quiz at which RMB 16,000 was raised. The third event is the June 22 charity walk-a-thon. The final event will be held on June 27, where everyone invited to the U.S. Independence Celebration has been asked to donate either an item, such as baby formula, or cash. All of the money and in-kind donations will be given to charity organizations currently engaged in providing relief to the victims.

June 22 Charity Walk-a-Thon
Participants, wearing their “jia you” t-shirts, will gather at 9:40 at the parking lot near the U.S. Consulate.

At 10:00 a.m. Consul General Goldberg and his wife Sally Werner, along with officials from the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office, will lead the walk around Shamian Island.
The t-shirts have been donated by Sun-tex, which has requested that 100% of donations be given to charities working to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the earthquakes.
