Established in 1947, the 60-year-old Panxi Restaurant is one of the most favorable eating places for Guangzhou locals. It was once a haven for celebrities from both home and abroad.
Guangzhou's Liwan Archives is to display a series of visitor's books of Panxi Restaurant in Cultural Park (Wenhua Gongyuan) on December 10th.
The visitor's books contain various kinds of remarks written in Chinese, English, German, Korean, even Arabian languages. Many messages left in the books belong to names that are familiar to the public including Henry Alfred Kissinger, former Secretary of the United States; Juan Antonio Samaranch, former president of IOC (International Olympic Committee); Keith Rupert Murdoch, the media giant; Choi Lam, epicure from Hong Kong; also many renowned writers and artists like Mao Dun, Guo Moruo, Lao She, Chen Xiangmei and Ren Zhongyi.
According to Hu Datong, vice-director general of the Liwan Archives, during the forty five years from 1960 to 2005, Panxi Restaurant collected 24 visitor's books covering handwritings from more than 500 celebrities.
