Guangdong Qualifier for Robo Cup Kicks Off

 
The Qualifier for the Robo Cup 2008 Junior, Preliminary in Guangdong commenced yesterday in the Guangzhou Young People Science and Technology Museum.

Some 200 students of 60 teams from middle and primary schools across Guangdong Province participate in the event. The winners will take part in China's Qualifier in Shanghai on May 16 to 18.

昨天，青少年机器人世界杯（Robo Cup Junior）广东赛区正式开锣，自广东省内的60支中小学队伍，共200多人参赛，以争夺代表广东队参加5月16日至18日在上海举行的2008年世界杯青少年组中国赛区选拔参赛资格。

Zheng Zihao and Huang Zhenrong from the Guangzhou No. 2 Middle School compete with a pair of robots for bullfights they made.

They said "It only took us two weeks to make these robots. ... They inter-play to each other, with infrared sensors installed. The dueling robots require higher technologies than only one."

The two boys participated in the competition last year.

“做这两个机器人只用了2个多礼拜。”机器人的设计者是广州市二中的两名高二学生郑子浩和黄振荣，两人介绍说，去年也曾参加过机器人比赛。“两个机器人有互动，要比一个机器人的技术难度高！”两人表示，他们在参赛作品中加入了红外传感等新技术。

The World Robo Cup Junior is a project-oriented educational campaign that involves local, regional and international robotic events for the students no older than 19. The events include soccer, rescue and dance.

The 2008 Robo Cup Junior final is to be held in Suzhou city in east China's Jiangsu province this July.

据了解，青少年机器人世界杯主办方为国际机器人组织，该项赛事是专门为青少年提供的一个以教育及科技为目的的竞赛项目，是机器人世界杯的青少年赛事。参赛队伍将分别进行机器人足球、搜救、舞蹈等项目的比赛最后选拔的队伍将参加7月份在苏州举办的机器人世界杯决赛，与来自其他国家的参赛选手进行角逐。
