China to Launch First 3G Public Service Next Month

中国移动证实，将在8座城市（包括广州、深圳、北京、上海）3G网络(TD-SCDMA制式)已经布好，将于今年4月投入商业试运行。

China Mobile just confirmed to have set up its 3G networks of TD-SCDMA mode in 8 cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai, for upcoming public trial operation next month.

这将是中国首个开通商业服务的3G网络。

It will be the nation's first ever 3G service for public operation.

3G放号将于4月开始。广州和深圳的3G网络在未来两周内放号。

Phone numbers will be distributed accordingly in April. The number distribution is to start in Guangzhou and Shenzhen in 2 weeks.

TD-SCDMA手机原定50万部的销售目标将降至30万部。预计，这类手机三分之一将采取"手机免费、服务免费"模式，2/3采取"手机收费、服务免费"模式。 

The selling target of TD-SCDMA handsets has been shrunk from 500 thousand to 300 thousand.

It is expected that the handsets and service would be both free of charge for one third of these phones, while service would be free, but handsets be charged for the remaining two thirds.
